Privacy policy

The short version: your images are compressed entirely on your own device and are never uploaded to us. This page explains, in plain English, exactly what that means and what little data is involved.

Last updated: July 2026

Your images never leave your browser

This is the most important thing to understand, so we will say it plainly. When you use the compressor on sotiny.co.uk, all image processing happens 100% on your own device, inside your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server we run, and they are never transmitted to us, stored by us, or seen by us. There is no "upload" step at all; the tool reads the images you select directly in the page, compresses them using a WebAssembly encoder running locally, and hands the results straight back to you.

Because your pictures stay on your device, we have no copy of them, no way to access them, and nothing to leak, sell or hand over. When you close or refresh the tab, the images you were working on are simply gone from the page. You can read more about how this works on our about page.

What data we do not collect

We have deliberately built the tool to need as little as possible:

  • We do not collect, upload or store your images or their contents.
  • We do not require an account, an email address, or any sign-up. There is nothing to register.
  • We do not ask for payment details, because the tool is free.
  • We do not use cookies to track you, and we do not build advertising or behavioural profiles.

Analytics

The tool itself does not require or run a personal analytics account, and we do not track individual users across the web. We are interested in whether the tool works well, not in who you are. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and describe clearly what is measured before it takes effect.

Nothing is stored on your device

The site does not set cookies and does not store any preferences, identifiers or other data in your browser's localStorage. There is nothing for you to clear and nothing that persists between visits; the tool simply loads, does its work in memory, and leaves no trace behind.

Third-party services the page loads

Almost everything the tool needs (its styling, scripts and the libwebp-based WebAssembly encoder that compresses your images) is served directly from sotiny.co.uk. The page loads just one resource from a third party: the web font. When your browser requests it, that provider receives ordinary technical request information, typically your IP address, user-agent (browser and device type) and the time of the request, as happens with almost any website. It does not receive your images, because your images are never sent anywhere.

These providers may keep standard server logs under their own privacy policies. We do not control those logs and we do not receive them.

Children's privacy

The tool is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. Since no images or personal details are uploaded to us, there is nothing for us to gather.

Your rights

Because we do not hold your images or a personal account for you, and the site stores nothing on your device, there is generally no personal data anywhere to access, correct or delete.

Changes to this policy

If we update how the tool works in a way that affects your privacy, we will revise this page and change the "Last updated" date above. We encourage you to check back occasionally.

Contact

If you have a question about this policy or how the tool handles data, you can reach the team behind sotiny.co.uk via Flitzen. You may also like to read our terms of use, or simply open the compressor and try it; nothing you do there is sent to us.
