What sotiny.co.uk is
sotiny.co.uk is a free image compressor and WebP converter built for people who just want smaller images without the usual friction. There is no sign-up wall, no free trial that quietly expires, and no watermark stamped across your work. You open the page, drop in your pictures, and get optimised files back in seconds. That is the whole idea.
What makes it a little different is where the work happens. Every image you add is compressed on your own device, inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nothing is stored in a cloud bucket, and no one on our side ever sees your files. We built the tool on the real libwebp encoder (the same open-source library Google uses to make the WebP format) compiled to WebAssembly so it runs at near-native speed right on your machine. You get professional-grade results with complete privacy, which is a combination that is surprisingly hard to find.
Our philosophy: free, private, honest
We think a simple utility like this should be genuinely free and genuinely private. So we made three promises and built the product around them.
- Free forever. No account, no paywall, no credit card. Use it once or use it every day.
- Private by design. Your images never leave the browser. There is nothing to upload, so there is nothing for us to lose, sell or leak.
- Honest output. No watermarks, no forced downgrades, and no dark patterns nudging you towards a paid tier that does not exist.
Because the compression is fully client-side, the tool also works happily on a train with patchy signal, and it keeps sensitive material (client photos, product shots, screenshots with private details) on your device where it belongs. If you would like the full detail, our privacy policy spells out exactly what is and is not collected.
Who it is for
We built sotiny.co.uk for everyone in the UK (and beyond) who bumps into oversized images:
- Developers shrinking assets to speed up a website and improve Core Web Vitals.
- Marketers preparing lightweight graphics for email campaigns and landing pages.
- Shop owners optimising product photos so their store loads quickly and ranks better.
- Students squeezing images under a coursework or upload limit.
- Anyone who has ever been told a photo is "too large to attach".
What you can do today
Right now, the compressor already does a great deal. When you drop images in, it:
- Produces an optimised WebP for each image, giving you both a lossless and a lossy (quality 80) version with file sizes shown so you can choose.
- Offers four sizes (Original (100%), Small (−25%), Smaller (−50%) and Smallest (−75%)), with the aspect ratio preserved and high-quality resampling.
- Accepts a wide range of inputs: JPG/JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP and SVG. See our image formats guide if you are unsure which to use.
- Handles batch uploads and lets you grab everything at once with a Download-All ZIP.
- Works on any modern desktop and mobile browser, with a clean, fast, distraction-free interface.
New here? The step-by-step walkthrough on how to compress images takes about a minute, and you can compare formats on our WebP vs JPG vs PNG page. Prefer a specific job? Jump straight to compress JPG, compress PNG or convert to WebP.
Roadmap: more features to come
The compressor is only the start. We are actively building, and the following are planned rather than promised on any particular date, but they give a good sense of where sotiny.co.uk is heading:
- AVIF export. Adding AVIF as an output format for even smaller files where browsers support it.
- EXIF and metadata controls. Fine-grained options to strip or keep location, camera and other metadata before you download.
- PDF and document tools. Compressing and converting PDFs and other documents with the same private, in-browser approach.
- Bulk presets. Save your favourite size and quality settings and apply them to a whole batch in one click.
- More formats. Broader input and output support as the underlying encoders mature.
Everything on the roadmap will keep the same principles: free, private, and running in your browser.
Who makes it
sotiny.co.uk is built and maintained by Flitzen, a small software team that likes making practical tools genuinely useful. We take the privacy-first, no-friction approach seriously because it is the kind of tool we wanted for ourselves. If the compressor saves you a little time today, that is exactly what it was made for.
Give it a go
There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. Add a few images, pick the size and quality that suit you, and download, all without a single byte leaving your device.
